Program for November 12 Meeting
Craig Mildrexler is a local abstract artist and has been a
Perry Park resident since 2001. Craig was formerly an accountant in a
previous life! He did not pick up a paint brush until he was 30 years old, back
in 1991. He paints abstracts in acrylics, with sizes ranging from 6 inches by 6
inches to 4 feet by 8 feet. This is his first year showing full time and he was
accepted into 13 juried art shows in 10 states:
The competition of shows inspires him to
keep his work fresh and different. Applications for 2009 art fairs are already
being taken nationally, so after this last show, it’ll be lots of work in the
studio for a few months. Besides showing in art fairs, his work is also on
display (and for sale!) at the Artist’s Avenue Gallery in

As may be seen when you examine the November 2008
PLAG membership list attached, a great many members have been stricken from the
list due to non-payment of dues! Payment for the 2008-2009 year was due
on September 15 and extended for a month and a half. Now we have had no choice
but to purge the list of all non-paying members. We do not wish to lose any of
our valuable members! So, please check the list for your name. If
you are not listed and wish to remain a member of PLAG, or if you believe that
your name has been removed in error, please contact Sue Jenkins,
Treasurer (719 481-9149) as soon as possible. If we do not hear from you,
this will be the last newsletter you receive.

BOOST YOUR ART SALES BEFORE CHRISTMAS
by John DeFrancesco
Where have all the buyers gone? Not far, actually. But they’re being more cautious and selective
in what they are purchasing, during these tight monetary times.
One major retailer just reported that
people are using credit cards less because credit is tight and many have maxed-out their card limits.
They also said there has been an up-tick in shopping during pay periods
(normally the 1st and 15th of the month), when people
have cash.
Nonetheless,
people are shopping. As an example, sales during the PLAG
Christmas Crafts Show the first weekend in October were strong. And the biggest gift-buying season, between
Halloween and Christmas, is upon us. So
there still are about 60 days for artists to enjoy sales of their art. Here are six thoughts on how you can do that
quickly:
n
Focus
on the gift-buying market. There will be
resistance over $100, so market gift-items under that ceiling.
n
There
still is time to host a studio show and sale.
n
Contact
local churches to ask if you can set up a display on Sundays, offering them a
percentage of sales.
n
Contact
local retailers to see if they’d be willing to provide a location in the store
for a period of time. As an incentive,
offer to run a small advertisement in the local paper promoting your offerings.
n
Use
your e-mail marketing list to remind people that your art is the perfect
Christmas gift. Give the recipient a way
to conveniently see your art (e.g., by visiting your studio).
n
Do
something that shows appreciation of past buyers through a special offer. Make it more impressive by sending a letter
rather than an e-mail.

Thank You, John For over two years now, John DeFrancesco
has been providing our newsletter with concise, informative articles on how
to improve, show and sell our artworks. His knowledge and insight have been
an inspiration for all of us. However, other demands on his time intervene
and John is taking a sabbatical for a while. We sincerely hope that he will
resume his articles some time in the not too distant future. But for now, Thank You, John from the
membership of PLAG. |
Here’s a bit of Halloween fun if you have
Internet access. Go to www.coasttocoastam.com/timages/page/pumpkin_sim.html
and try your artistic ability!
Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! ![]()
